Fear

At the student-planned Prime Time Mass this past Wednesday evening, we were each given a square of clay before we entered the chapel. The opening question was not something to discuss, like usual, but instead was an instruction to form out of our clay something that we fear.

I kneaded my small square of clay until it became round. I then took my skewer stick and drew an outline of America.

After the Gospel we were instructed to morph our clay into something that we believe will keep us from those fears. I then formed my clay into an eye.

When Michael asked if any of us were willing to share, I raised my hand.

I first formed the world because I fear the world that my nephews and niece, as well as my own children someday, will live in.

I transformed that world into an eye, because I know God is always watching over us and He will take care of us, so there is no reason to fear. This isn't necessarily easy, though, and I get that.

Had you asked me 6 months ago what I feared, the list would have included things like:
my future
being alone
failure

Here's the thing, though. I have learned a lot in the past 6 months. A lot.

I know now that I will never be alone because God is always with me.

I know now that I don't need to fear failure, because failure helps me learn and gives me the motivation to try again.

I know now that I shouldn't fear my future because God knows what He's doing. Everything happens for a reason and if something isn't going right, it's probably going to teach me something and I will come out of the situation better than I was before.

I have a really great friend whose faith I admire greatly, and she will occasionally text me random Bible verses. Those verses always seem to be just what I need to hear at the time. She recently sent me this:

"Consider it pure joy whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance, which must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything."

Day 10: Lucas and Liz

Where do I begin? These two are amazing. We met last year at St. Stephen's where we started a band with Rob and Chloe. They give the BEST hugs ever and are always there for me when I need them. Love them so much!!

Day 9: CAB

This year I became involved in the Campus Activities Board, or CAB. I was on the Homecoming committee (and have applied to be the chair of that committee for next year). I have met so many amazing people through this organization and I'm so thankful that UNI gives me the opportunity to be involved in so many great organizations!
Here's a few of us Cabbies with TC at the Homecoming festival.

April 28

Well due to the fact that I didn't go to bed until well after 3:30am, I slept in until 11ish. (For the record, the RA on call washed me sheets for me, and I slept on Katlyne and Danielle's futon.) It was another really great day of getting nothing done. Sweet. Just what I needed.

Joyce and I did travel down to Main street to watch UNI's Orchesis dance show because Courtney dances in it. After the show we went to Cup of Joe and then wandered Main for a while. It was lots of fun! I took a nap later and then met Lucas and Rob at Applebee's for some grub. (Liz had to work until 10). We picked Liz up after work and headed to Rob's apartment to hang out. We ended up staying up entirely too late just chatting about life. I hate myself for it today (because I got about 4 hours of sleep), but it was TOTALLY worth it.

I decided to go old school with a glass bottle of coke from Cup of Joe.

February 25

Saturday! It was a rather lazy day. I slept in until about 9:30-which was awesome. I showered and then had brunch with Jen. I left around 1:00 for Cedar Rapids to visit my friend DJ. Once I got there, I sat in my car for 15 minutes because he didn't answer his dang phone. How rude (said in the Stephanie-from-Full-House way). He finally called me back and I figured out how to get to his room. We hung out there with some of his friends until his parents came. We went out to eat with them and then went to watch DJ's jazz band concert.

My photo of the day is of my RA's boyfriend, who recently won the "Mr. School of Music" competition. Some people from RC believe he looks like Josiah Simpson. I see it a little bit....

And unfortunately, I took ONE picture the whole time I was in CR. ONE!! and it's not even good. but here it is :)
